The Delaware River Scenic Area spans portions of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York, encompassing the free-flowing stretches of the Delaware River designated as part of the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System. This protected corridor preserves more than 73 miles of the river known for its clean waters, diverse habitats, and outstanding scenic and recreational values. The landscape features rolling forested hills, steep gorges, wetlands, and historic river towns. Ecologically, the area supports a variety of fish species including smallmouth bass and trout, while being home to bald eagles, osprey, and river otters. Historically, this river was critical for Native American tribes and later for colonial commerce and industrial development. Today, visitors can enjoy kayaking, canoeing, fishing, hiking along river trails, scenic driving, and wildlife watching. Notable landmarks include the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, the Martins Creek bypass, and the historic river port towns along the river's course.
